Gonzales Canyon Volunteer Event (SDCL)

Join your Gonzales Canyon neighbors, Open Space Park Rangers and San Diego Canyonlands in a cleanup of the Sword Way trail area. During the monthly events, we work to remove trash, dumping, invasive non-native plants, plant/water native plants in restoration sites, maintain trails, and do other exciting work to enhance the canyon. 

Community service hours documentation can be provided to those who need it. Volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a youth waiver to participate in our events. This waiver can be found by clicking here.  Wear sturdy shoes or boots and a hat and bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Tools and gloves provided if you do not bring your own.  NO BATHROOMS ON SITE.

Directions : From Del Mar Heights Road turn north on Lansdale Dr, go 1.4 miles and turn left on Sword Way. Go 0.5  (1/2) mile,  look for the San Diego Canyonlands banner on the fence to your left, and the brown Parks and Recreation trail marker. There is plenty of street parking.



Rose Creek Cutting & Clearing Event (FG)

This event will involve invasive plant removal along beautiful Rose Creek in Pacific Beach. Enjoy the birds and views while exercising outdoors. Give back to our community and care for our environment.

Wear closed shoes and long sleeves.

Please bring gloves, loppers or other cutters. Some tools available.

Friends of Tierrasanta Canyons Weekly Workgroups

For a true functional workout, join the Friends of Tierrasanta Canyons on Wednesdays, from 8 to 10 am.   Activities include removal of non-native tree saplings and water pipes.  To get details, send an email to friendsoftscanyons@gmail.com, subject line of Wednesday Workgroup.  We’ll include you on the distribution list.  Whether you come only once, or more regularly, we appreciate your time and effort.  Community service hour documentation available.

Canyon Strike Team (City)

This is an ongoing volunteer event run by the City of San Diego Open Space Division Rangers. This event was designed for volunteers to address some of the most pressing needs of our canyons. Locations and tasks will vary from week to week. Activities may include invasive plant & trash removal, watering, trail maintenance, and other special projects to help preserve and enhance City of San Diego Open Space Canyons and parklands.
 
Please Note: All volunteers must be at least 18 years old and complete a Liability Waiver onsite prior to volunteering. Volunteers can expect a physically demanding morning, consisting of long hikes on uneven/steep terrain and heavy lifting in direct sunlight.
 
Volunteers must email Ranger Tiffany no later than noon the day before the event to receive event details. 

*NO BATHROOMS ON SITE*

Additional Project Information: Event begins promptly at 9am. Tools and gloves are provided. Please wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and sun protection (a hat, sunscreen, etc). We recommend bringing at least 32 oz of drinking water.

Chollas Creek at Webster Volunteer Event (City)

This is a volunteer event run by the City of San Diego Open Space Division Rangers.  At these events they do various activities to help preserve and enhance City of San Diego Open Space Canyons and parklands, including planting, watering, invasive plant removal and trash/debris pickup.

*NO BATHROOM ON SITE*

Additional Project Information: Tools and gloves are provided. Please wear closed toes shoes and protection from the sun (a hat, sunscreen, etc). Bring lots of water to drink. Volunteers must be physically able to hike on uneven terrain down into canyon during some volunteer events and perform varying degrees of physical activity. Tasks vary and can be accommodated to fit volunteer's abilities.

Please Note:If you or your guest is below the age of 18, you need to have a parent or guardian sign the Liability Waiver that can be found at http://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/pdf/volunteer/volunteerwaiver.pdf and bring the signed waiver to the volunteer event.

You are welcome to just show up to the event without prior notification if you have a group of 5 or less.  If you would like to sign up a group please notify the Ranger.
 
Please note: The City of San Diego has a new online registration process for all volunteer events. Volunteers are now required to sign up for any of the volunteer projects listed below, prior to each event. Please remember to report your volunteer service hours. Crest Canyon Volunteer Event (SDCL)

Join San Diego Canyonlands our routine volunteer event in Crest Canyon Open Space Park.  

Come and enjoy the beautiful vistas and inviting shade of old-growth Torrey pines while we remove invasive plants and do other restoration activities as needed.

Hollywood Canyon Volunteer Event (SDCL)

Join Hollywood Canyon neighbors, community volunteers and San Diego Canyonlands for this 4th Saturday routine stewardship event in the canyon as part of our restoration efforts. Help us to create a healthy habitat for wildlife and a safe place for recreation in the City Heights community of San Diego. All ages welcome!

Volunteers will care for our native plantings, remove invasive plants and remove trash and debris from our restoration areas.

This canyon is adjacent to Hollywood Park which has bathrooms on site. This benefit makes this a great event for families.

Community service hours documentation provided to those who need it. Volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a youth waiver to participate in our events.
